Shenanigans Of A 4 Year Old Boy

Pierce vs Frisbee. The frisbee was unharmed. Pierce had 2 black eyes. No broken nose. When we took him to the doctor he told her that he was assessed (obsessed) with volcanoes. The volcano in Iceland is a VERY big deal around here. We must watch it erupting on you tube at least 3 times a day.

After an hour of mysterious quietness, Chad finds Pierce working on a "project" in the basement. You can see that it involved a large paper tube and lots of twine. I love the look on his face. Geez mom, can't you just leave a guy alone when he's doing a super important project.

The other morning Pierce very quietly wakes up (except for tripping over the stool in the bathroom, when I hear him say "Oops, I tripped" very quietly to himself). I then hear him tiptoe down the stairs and shuffle around for a few minutes and then come back upstairs. He announces that he has made me a very special breakfast. Cheese with a torpedo (tortilla) in the middle. YUM!

Just a silly picture. I love that Asher and I have the exact same expression on our faces!

Cakes

I've always wanted to take a Wilton Cake decorating class, but I had no idea what I was in for. These ladies are serious and they have the church lady, wouldn't move in a tornado, hairdo to prove it. I naively thought that I would show up with my piping bag and they would hand me a styrofoam cake and tell more to go for it. Boy was I wrong. Class 1 was a 3 hour "lecture", which included everything on how to bake an award winning cake, to frosting stiffness and how to create your own parchment piping bag (which is not as easy as it sounds). My girlfriend and I were the only ones giggling nervously in the back of the classroom. I think there's going to be some stiff competition, although I am fairly certain that I will fair better than the lady who asked if you could make buttercream frosting with brown sugar.
We were instructed to study our lesson plan far in advance of the next class and to bake 3 cakes this weekend so that we could freeze them and pull them out when needed. We also needed to prepare our frostings and bring one of our cakes, iced, to the next class. Easy, right? Well, let me tell you my friend, it wasn't. 8+ hours later, with a kitchen covered in powdered sugar, unhappy children, unhappy husband and 4 cakes with a 2" crater in the center, I almost threw in the towel. I suppose it was partly my fault. I never had a problem baking a flat cake in the past, but this time I just had to get fancy. No flat 2" pancake cake would do. I just had to get the extra deep cake pan to prove my awesomeness come class time. Well, I've done some research and I'm sure I have it down now. I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Sure, I ruined another cake this morning, but I won't stop until I have mastered it. If I don't come with a perfectly iced cake on Tuesday how will I ever win Linda the cake lady over with my purely natural talent and become her personal assistant who learns all her trade secrets?

Disney World 2010

What a great spring break! Oma treated us to a last minute trip to Disney World, and after a whirlwind week of preparations, we had the car loaded and were ready to drive 21 hours in our small SUV with the kiddos. After arriving the first day to torrential downpours (that didn't deter us, we went to the parks anyway and no, we didn't have rain gear) the rest of the weather was beautiful. Everyone enjoyed the rides, meals with the characters and white sand beaches at our resort. I even accomplished my goal of lying on the beach drinking a cocktail the color of my new pink bikini (times 2). I highly recommend the pina colava at the Polynesian Resort ;). Everything went smoothly, not counting the drive home, in which 3 out of 4 people had the flu and we had to drive home in the vomit mobile. Next project, getting the car fumigated.

Just can't get enough of our family vacation pics? Check out all 110 of them here!

Boy On A Coaster

Here we go!
UP UP UP

YAHOOOOOOO!

Whoo!
Pierce loves those thrill rides. Especially the roller coasters! The faster the better. He certainly didn't get that from his mother. One time Chad convinced me to go on the Whizzer at Six Flags, and lets just say it wasn't a fun experience. I don't care if it was a kids roller coaster, it was scary!
Pierce's favorite rides at Disney were Dumbo, The Orbitor, The Barnstormer and Thunder Mountain. Asher absolutely loved It's A Small World.
Pierce's least favorite rides? Anything indoors. We made the unfortunate mistake of scarring the little guy with the Pirates of the Carribbean as our first ride. From that point on, he wanted nothing to do with the indoor rides. Including Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan. He woke up that night yelling "I can't handle that pirate ride!"
We also loved Turtle Talk with Crush, which is an animated show in which the turtle from Finding Nemo interacts with the audience. At the end of the show they open up the floor for questions. Pierce wasn't chosen to ask a question and left the theater very upset. When we asked him what his question was, he said that he wanted to know why turtles don't get boogies. Oh, the workings of a 4 year olds mind!
